Tea Classifications
Originally discovered over 5000 years ago in the mountainous
regions of China’s Yunnan Province, tea and the practice of tea
drinking has spread across the globe. Thousands of years have
passed and China continues to lead the world in tea production.
This is an amazing distinction considering many of China’s unique
teas continue to remain unknown in the West.
China may offer the most diverse selection of teas found
anywhere. The six traditional classes of Chinese tea are Green,
White, Yellow, Red, Oolong and Black (Pu-erh). Recently an
additional class of specialty teas (e.g. Blooming and Floral) has
also evolved.
